Furious Theatre scores rights to coveted
Los Angeles Premiere of Neil LaBute play

Furious Theatre Company kicks off 2005 at the Pasadena Playhouse Balcony Theatre with the Los Angeles premiere of playwright-director-filmmaker Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things. The production opens January 21 and runs through February 20 (Previews: January 18-20 at 7:30 p.m.). Regular performances will be Thursdays-Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Pasadena Playhouse Balcony Theatre, 39 S. El Molino Ave., Pasadena, California 91101.

Socially awkward Adam meets sophisticated art student Evelyn. New clothes, new hair and a whole new routine. He’s only gotten more interesting, more desirable. It’s a life change. Really...

Neil LaBute's dark comedy is set on the campus of a midwestern college and examines society's obsession with looks.

Despite a phenomenally successful production history beginning with its world premiere at London's Almeida Theatre, the subsequent New York transfer and the 2003 film adaptation, The Shape of Things has yet to receive a Los Angeles production. Furious Theatre Company is honored to have been granted the rights to produce the play, which had been specifically restricted in Los Angeles, requiring approval directly from LaBute and his agent. LaBute, whom the The New Yorker called "The best new playwright to emerge in the past decade," is a successful filmmaker (In the Company of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors, Nurse Betty, Possession). His most recent play, Fat Pig, is running Off-Broadway to great acclaim starring Jeremy Piven, Andrew McCarthy and Keri Russell.

Tickets are currently on sale and may be purchased online at www.furioustheatre.org, at the Pasadena Playhouse Customer Service Center (open from 12 p.m. until curtain on performance days, and 12 p.m.–6 p.m. on Mondays) or by calling the box office at 626-356-PLAY. Furious Theatre Company will continue its season in residence at the Pasadena Playhouse Balcony Theatre with the West Coast Premiere of The God Botherers by Richard Bean March 22-April 24, 2005 and the U.S. Premiere of Tearing the Loom by Gary Mitchell May 24-June 26, 2005.
