Furious Theatre presents hotly topical comedy
about foreign aid workers in the third world

Furious Theatre Company follows up its critically-acclaimed Los Angeles premiere of Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things with the West Coast premiere of British playwright Richard Bean’s The God Botherers. The production opens March 25 and runs through April 24 (previews: March 22 - 24 at 7:30 p.m.). Regular performances will be Thursdays - Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Pasadena Playhouse Balcony Theatre, 39 S. El Molino Ave., Pasadena, California 91101.

Welcome to Tambia. Don’t ever say you don’t believe in God, alright? They’ll think you’re mentally ill. You’re either Muslim or Christian. The borders don’t make any sense, there’s no rule of law, no running water, the last war’s ruined everything and the next war will ruin everything else...

Bean’s politically-incorrect comedy The God Botherers chronicles the efforts of two British foreign aid workers as they struggle to ‘help’ a third world country.

The play received its world premiere in 2003 at London’s Bush Theatre. The London Times said, “The God Botherers is seriously hilarious and seriously serious.” The Guardian called it "a brutally funny, hotly topical play about the confrontation of western liberalism and Muslim conviction that suggests neither side has a monopoly on wisdom," and The British Theatre Guide called it, “One of those rarities, a really funny comedy with depth.”

In October 2004, the play received a staged reading at New York’s legendary Public Theatre and received its Off-Broadway premiere in February 2005. Richard Bean has become one of Britian’s hottest new playwrights, recently commissioned and produced by both London’s National Theatre and the Royal Court.
Tickets are currently on sale and may be purchased online at www.furioustheatre.org, at the Pasadena Playhouse Customer Service Center (open from 12 p.m. until curtain on performance days, and 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Mondays) or by calling the box office at 626-356-PLAY. Single ticket prices range from $15 - $24; Students $5; Previews: $12.

Furious Theatre Company will conclude its first season in residence at the Pasadena Playhouse Balcony Theatre with the U.S. Premiere of Tearing the Loom by Gary Mitchell May 24 - June 26, 2005.
